Winter has passed, I guess. I don't think that it's just me that the seasons are going by faster these days. Well, at least the cold seasons that is. I think that it will be interesting to see what the future holds, considering that any other year, this is what we would be looking at, and instead, we're looking at nearly summer- type temperatures, blue skies and sun.
I think that this spring and summer, my plan is to get more and more into shape. And to that end, I will be needing a lot of music to help me to run like I want to.To that end, I am starting this blog- to review music, and hopefully even get some feedback and suggestions about what music is nice to run/ work out to.
But I don't know, beyond that- I think I just want to talk about music. Anyway, we'll see where this all goes. For now, I foresee a lot of blog posts about music, and a few about my own- but I would love to have this be mostly about my own music, punctuated by other musicians sounds that I like. Haha. Who knows.

Exodus is definitely an old favorite. So- how does such an old (2004) album make it into my new blog? Well, I just discovered her albums on the new Google Play store, and decided to grab them for nostalgia more than anything else.
The thing is, in the intervening 8 years since this was originally released, some- thing has happened in the music world. There has been a major shift here in the states, in terms of what is popular. In 2004, I feel like rap and rock were much more mainstream, while this brand of electronic pop wasn't widely accepted.
I feel like I'm listening to a whole new album. I notice far more of the subtle counter rhythms. I appreciate Utada's sincere, and unfiltered voice. And honestly, the very quirkiness that might have hurt the album's sales back then, I think would actually help it more now.
I wish that UMG would re-release this album. Right now. Because I think that it would honestly sell more now than it did before. This is definitely an album that was before it's time. |
